This six-ingredient recipe has recently defined my mornings. As a working mom that has to pump, get myself ready, get my baby ready, and get to work in the morning…. Let’s just say I can find it challenging to have the time to get some proper nutrition into my morning routine. However, drinking this smoothie has been the solution that I needed – it’s loaded with protein, collagen (to help out my postpartum hair-falling out situation :(), prebiotic dietary fiber, and as the title suggests… lots of probiotics! The protein powder that I use has over a billion probiotics per serving! The smoothie takes just a couple of minutes to make each morning and I can drink it on the way to work. The recipe can be found below:
- 16 fl. oz any type almond milk
- 1 medium to large ripe banana
- 2 scoops chocolate protein powder
- 4 tbsp collagen
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 2 tbsp Peanut butter (optional)
The total calories for the smoothie come out to about 600 (~430 if you get rid of the peanut butter), based on whatever type almond milk you choose. I use the unsweetened vanilla one, personally. This smoothie also has ~45g protein, ~15g fiber, helping to keep my morning cravings away. Also, the protein powder that I use is vegan, so it has plenty of micronutrients like potassium and iron. The banana adds an extra shot of potassium to it, which is a nutrient that is actually quite challenging to get enough of in our diets. The collagen adds another layer of protein for my hair (postpartum hair loss is too real…) and skin care routine. Finally, I choose to have the peanut butter because I’m currently nursing and need the extra calories. I am currently pumping breastmilk for my little one, and I’ve noticed incorporating this nutrient-dense smoothie into my morning routine has increased my milk supply throughout the day compared to the couple of days I’ve missed the smoothie. Even when I stop pumping, I will likely drink this as a meal shake just due to how nutritious and yummy it is, as well as how it makes me feel after I drink it! I Would recommend trying this simple recipe to all my friends!
