DIY Peel & Stick Laundry Room Flooring

Our laundry room had been untouched for nearly 30 years when we moved into our house. It had old builder-grade tile on the floor and builder-grade white paint on all of the walls. Fortunately my husband likes to do laundry because I really did not like the appearance of that room before we transformed it and avoided going in there if I could! It all changed when I stumbled upon the cheapest DIY flooring imaginable on Amazon- the DIY flooring in the thumbnail only cost us $30 altogether! The flooring was the inspiration that I needed to update our laundry room and serves as the centerpiece for our new aesthetic. Before that, I really didn’t have many ideas as to what we could do with the room given it’s size and the room’s purpose (cat litter box storage, mud room needs, etc.)

The first step before our laundry room makeover was to paint the walls – obviously I needed this done before we could put the DIY flooring down. My husband painted three of the walls with a gray paint that we picked at Lowe’s. I wanted to add a little extra character to the room, so we put some black non-toxic chalk paint on the 4th wall (as seen in the thumbnail) that can be found here. By doing this, we can conveniently use the wall to write scriptures, ideas, and reminders for my husband and I.

The next step was installing the DIY flooring. I put it down over a year and half ago and it looks as good as new, despite cats going in and out of their litter box every day and us tracking dirt in the house. It’s proven to be quite durable. Installation was a breeze – I just mopped the tile floor to clean it off and prepare it for sticking. Then, the DIY flooring just stuck on top of the tile. It really was that simple! You can use a utility knife to cut squares to size for baseboards and the installation took just a few hours to complete (and much of that was just moving stuff in and out).  You can find the flooring here. I still can’t believe how easy it was to do by myself (though, I did have my husband help move our washer and dryer around as needed).

It’s amazing what just a little bit of paint and cheap aesthetic floors can do to a room. It’s shocking that our laundry room makeover cost less than $100, but the transformation looked far more expensive than that! This flooring works great for laundry and mud rooms!

P.S.

For those cat lovers out there that are intrigued at that little night stand enclosure looking thing in the corner, that is actually a cat house that hides the scent of our two cats’ litter box as well as keeping it out of sight. The cat house can be found here. It takes out the unpleasant eye sore of their litter box and certainly helps in masking the smell of their box! Setup for the decorative cat house was very straight forward and I was able to do it myself in a short amount of time.
